Detroit Tigers Sign Pitcher Brad Penny -- MLB

The Detroit Tigers have made some big signings in the off season, but they are still trying to add to their starting pitching staff. Hopefully Brad Penny can help. The Tigers have reportedly signed Penny to a one-year, $3 million contract in their pursuit of a number 3 or 4 starter.

The contract is reportedly incentive-laden, allowing the 32-year-old to earn an additional $3 million through performance-based incentives. The 11-year veteran has eclipsed 200 innings pitched only once since 2001.

In other MLB News - The Cincinnati Reds finalized a contract with last season World Series MVP Edgar Renteria. The deal Renteria signed is for one year, with salary incentives to boot. This deal seems odd, after the Giants were so high on Renteria to just let him walk way.

The New York Yankees are reportedly pursuing pitcher Justin Duchscherer.  Adding starting pitching is the Yanks' number one priority. Duchscherer has a career record of 33-25 with a 3.13 ERA in eight seasons with the Oakland Athletics and Texas Rangers. So it begins, the smell of desperation starts to come out of New York as they will once again highly over pay an average pitcher!US news paper
