Last week, Maine Governor Paul LePage declined an invitation to attend a Martin Luther King Day event sponsored by the NAACP. Then he went a step further, telling the NAACP to “kiss my butt.”
It was a classic Paul LePage gaffe, one of many the Tea Party backed Republican has made since he first began his journey to the Blaine House, Maine’s Governors Mansion. As a candidate, LePage made headlines when he was caught on video telling President Barack Obama to “Go to hell.”
Don’t accuse Paul Lepage of being a racist though. “My son happens to be black” he recently reminded a reporter from local NBC affiliate WCHS6. LePage has an adopted son from Jamaica.
Instead, LePage claims that he refused to attend the MLK Day event in question because he views the NAACP as a special interest group. The governor didn't comment on whether or not he views the civil rights movement led by Martin Luther King, Jr. as a special interest group as well.US NEWS PAPER
