Living Cockroach Revealed in Woman's Colonoscopy

A colonoscopy revealed a living cockroach inside a woman’s colon. Sure roaches are supposed to live through anything, but to travel through the body and live in the intestine just seems like too much for the insect to survive, and yet it did. The bizarre case was written up in Endoscopy.

The woman who had a living cockroach inside her is 52 years old, and she had a history of depression. Although there was no history of colorectal cancer, she was referred for the screening because she had abdominal bloating. The insect was actually found in the transverse colon during the cancer screening procedure.

Unfortunately for the patient, she was living in a home infested with the nasty bugs, and the doctors theorize that she may have actually eaten the living roach with food. Obviously finding a living insect in your colon would not be great, it is certainly much better news than cancer. The doctors were able to remove the cockroach, and she was fine after that. Cancer would have meant a much more invasive treatment for sure. However, how disgusting is it that there was a living bug inside this woman’s colon. That would be difficult to stomach. It also sounds like she needs to have an exterminator to her home to get rid of the infestationUS News Paper
