Jack Taylor Killed by His Paranoid Schizophrenic Brother

Jack Taylor, a nine-year-old boy in West Yorkshire, was killed by 21-year-old Daniel Taylor―his own brother. Daniel was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia years before but had never been a danger to himself or his family.

The biggest issues with Taylor were his heavy use of weed and alcohol. Unfortunately after his last hospital stay, Daniel stopped taking his medication periodically, which led to his latest psychotic break.

Their mother saw a change in Daniel’s behavior and tried to contact his community mental health team the day before the attack. The main care worker for Taylor was not in that day, and no one returned the message until the next day.

The team had to attend training and was not able to go to the Taylor's home until an entire day after the original call. On the afternoon of the attack, the team came to the house, but after a short visit they determined “there was no immediate problem or crisis” despite Taylor hearing voices, becoming more threatening towards his family and burning a picture of himself. Five hours after the team visit, Taylor took a knife to his own little brother.US NEWS PAPER
