Because at the end of the day, there are no guarantees … EVEN if you risk your life out on the streets … even if the despots fly to Rome, Saudi Arabia or Morocco … there are no guarantees that the future will leave us better off than today. No one will promise that at the end, “it will be worth it”. In fact, it could all very well be in vain. I struggle to make sense of this thing called history, fate, determinism and contingency (not to sound too Hegelian). For me, it’s not comparisons of cases, but anxiety over pain, hope and ambiguity.US NEWS PAPER
