Children see world in 1 night

The recreation department is hosting Friday nights full of fun for children 5 to 12 years old. A movie is shown each evening, with pizza, crafts and games included in the registration fee.

With suitcases full of souvenirs made at each "country," about 60 children got their passports stamped with stickers in Australia, Canada, China, Germany, France and Mexico.

Aaliyah Meadowls, 10, crafted lanterns on her visit to China with her friend, Alexis McGough, 11. The Port Huron girls said they love traveling and have big plans for where they're each going to go next.

Aaliyah and Alexis said they were dreaming of trips to France and Spain.

In imaginary Paris, the children were treated to crepes with whipped cream and berries -- if they learned a French word first.

Liam Hillman, 10, of Port Huron, said he approved of the crepe snack. However, he wasn't able to visit his favorite country Friday night -- Japan.

Referencing his favorite hobby of video games, Liam said, "Everything comes out there before it does here."US NES PAPER
