SparkFun Electronics gave away $150,000 worth of products as part of "Free Day" today. Designed to celebrate current SparkFun customers, the electronics website launched the second annual giveaway on a first-come, first-serve basis.

"Free Day is our way of giving back to our loyal customer base of innovative and passionate electronics enthusiasts, and to offer first-time folks an opportunity to get started designing and building fun electronic gadgets," SparkFun Founder and CEO Nathan Seidle said. "We love helping people turn designs ideas into reality and we look forward to seeing what our community members come up with as a result of this event."

SparkFun began in 2003 when Seidle realized it was too difficult to find the parts he needed to complete his engineering project. As a result of his frustration, Seidle founded SparkFun Electronics.

The online retail store sells "the bits and pieces" to make electronics projects. The website also offers classes and online tutorials to help consumers.
